The Honda Accord is a vehicle manufactured by Honda since 1976. The Accord was inspired on the succesful Civic. Today there are nine generations of Honda Accord, the first being launched in 1976. The second generation saw a mondernisation of the car's bodywork if its technology remained largely unchanged. In contrast to the first generation of Honda Accord, the second generation was manufactured in Japan.
With the introduction of the third generation, mechanical changes were made, to the car's suspension for example. The MacPherson struts were replaced with the more expensive double wishbones at the front and the rear thereby making the car easier to handle. The Accord hereby became the first Honda model to be equipped with double wishbone suspension. This was not all though. Other modifications were made to the brake system. An option ABS braking became available for the Accord for example.
The sixth generation of Honda Accord was for the European market assembled in the UK at the Swindon plant. This generation of Accords was produced in a joint venture with Rover. This particular generation proved to be an excellent quality car.
Today the Honda Accord is in its ninth generation, introduced only this year. The ninth generation is also available in a hybrid version and with either manual or automatic transmission.
